There are situations where endodontic treatment, also known as root canal therapy, may be needed. These may include, but are not limited to, extensive decay affecting the nerve of the tooth, fractures or cracks into the nerve, certain infections and trauma, and repeated dental procedures on a tooth. Root canal therapy is the process whereby the pulp, which contains the nerve and the blood supply, is removed, the canals of the tooth are cleaned, prepared and filled. Following root canal therapy, a post and/or a crown may be needed to protect the tooth. |

After creating a small opening, very small
instruments are used to clean and shape the root canal spaces. |
The cleaned spaces are filled with a biocompatible
material and specialized cement to ensure complete sealing of
the root canals. |
